Clapboard - Full Frontal Nerdity

Random Musing

The Sky is Rising!

Check it!I generally shy away from posting this stuff on Clapboard because politics bore me and large industries freaking out because no one needs them anymore bore me and having discussions with the brainwashed bores me, but hey!  I love graphs!

This graphic was posted at the often-awesome Techdirt and I wanted to repost it here because it illustrates with real numbers that what the content distribution industries have been saying for years is a total lie.  THe sky isn't falling, fuckers.  The world isn't ending.  The entertainment industry isn't dying, it's growing, and now's a great time to be a creator.  Fuck the liars in the suits.

That's all.  Graphic is 4x bigger after el break-o.

kinda feels like the new year already

Mostly because I'm already thinking about the things that'll be happening and that I have to do in the new year, but also partially because I'm actually working this week, which I find strange.  I'm currently waiting for Windows Updates to install, which seems sort of strange, but there's a virus or something on there that I'm supposed to remove.  We'll see if I can fix it.

Anyway, this is sort of an update about nothing, so I'll quit it, but I just wanted to get into the habit of writing a bit when I think of it.  So happy unofficial new year.

I don't really blog anymore

It's certainly not because I don't sit in front of the computer these days, but I'm not blogging for some reason, and the best way I can think to get to the bottom of it is to blog about it.

I've thought about writing.  I've thought about clapboard (I'm going to redesign/upgrade sometime soon). I don't know why I haven't gotten around to writing anything, but there are a few factors that I'm considering that, summed, probably answer this pressing question.

Because I'm working on making the home page less of a text dump and more of a cornucopia of things that interest me, I'm going to put the reasoning after the break.  It also makes scanning through for the interesting nuggets easier.

Travel Prep

I'm getting (mentally) ready for East Coast October!

Wednesday, though, I had a shoot for BRANDED, which was cool, and although I haven't had time to work on Monday's images yet, I'd rather have too many images than not enough, you know?  I doubt I'll do much shooting on the road, but you never know - I may well have whole days to kill and try taking some pictures as a way to pass the time.  I might also go to Washington DC to take pictures of monuments.  Maybe.

Anyway, college football and then Bootie on Saturday night and a flight early Sunday mean that I'm going to be busy as shit over the next 24 hours and even though nothing interesting is happening, I wanted to say hi anyway.  Maybe I'll post a picture or two later on, or at least let you know if I get something up on the BRANDED website.

the highs and lows of monday

Monday was my day in San Diego to shoot for Branded.  I had three models confirmed and two more on the "maybe" tip.  I've learned long ago that "maybe" is the LA "no", and models all want to be LA, even if they're not here.  No problem.  Three confirmed is good.  Thing is, two flaked.  So 33% of my models showed up, which is a bad ratio unless you're playing baseball, where winning 33% of your games would make you the second best team of all time (behind, of course, the Yankees, who have never lost a baseball game ever).

So that sucked.

But then Drew suggested a ride into the desert, and that ruled.  We rode for about 4 hours or a little more, if you count our stop at a diner for sliders and chicken strips.  Fun times. The ride was great.

So San Diego didn't get me the shots I wanted, but it did get me some awesome ridin' time with Drew, and that more than balanced out the crappy models who didn't show.
