Clapboard - Full Frontal Nerdity

Random Musing

Here's lookin' at you, kid.

Me at the Key ArenaWell, here I am in the Key Arena in Seattle after spending my whole life waiting on Bon Jovi's shows to actually start.  I feel, at least on some level, like the shows in Hawaii didn't exist - as if they existed in a dream world of no complexity and no very little consequence.  I mean hell, there, the opening acts were contest winners.  Here, it's Dashboard Confessional.  I mean, that's a band I've heard of, at least.  Not that I know any of their songs, but that's on me for being a lame-o and not on them for being a local "battle of the bands" winner.

So tonight is all new.  It's bigger and badder than before, and there are moving screens and giant hammers (not working yet) and audience members to prove it.  Besides, this arena probably holds 3x as many people as the Blaisdell.  Whatever, this arena is in Seattle, and the Blasidell is in fucking Honolulu.

Otherwise, I'm on the road for the forseeable future, which is weak, but whatever.  At least it means that Promptin' West is poppin' off with style.  There's the very real possibility that we'll even have two jobs going on at once at the start of March, which'll be great.  Anyway, more later, but I just wanted to post a picture of my face for you to laugh at (if you can see it in the dark).  Also, that pic is actually 640x480, so if you right-click and choose "view image" or whatever your browser says, you'll be faced with a face that's twice as big.  Eew.  I wouldn't recommend that.

Hello from Vegas

Okay, there's been a long lull.  The best way to remedy that is with a list!

  • I'm in Vegas
  • I got here last Friday.
  • I've been working Bette's last few shows
  • and drinking a lot
  • I have an angry rant about the Hoover Dam
  • I've written 25 pages of a new screenplay
  • I've worked out every day this week (in a manner of speaking)
  • PCW had two overlapping gigs, and the one I wasn't at was a disaster
  • Il Punali hasn't sold any shirts this month

That's mostly it.  I also have rants about friends dying, the iPad and some other shit that I'm too busy to write right now, but I'll get there.  This is a watershed that helps me break the habit of NOT updating, and now I can get to other things.

mid-week blues and oh how it rains!

leaky ceilingThis has turned into quite the rant on home leaks, so I'm putting it after the fold to help my homepage look less like one long block of text.  There are pictures, though, if you want the worth-a-thousand-words version.  And to think that I was going to talk about finally reading Sherlock Holmes in this post.  And Vegas.  And photography.  So much to talk about, all drowned out (pardon the metaphor) by the din of rainfall.

Click through to read more about the stupid nonsense that I probably should be taking more action to prevent.  That action comes soon.  Right after Las Vegas.  No comments about how things that start after a trip to vegas have little chance of being successful.

Monday's lament

Here we are, about to start a new week.  How many of us are wondering how we got to where we are? I'm definitely one of the people who are.  Welcome to our lives - it's weird here, so enjoy it.  Try not to look too deep.

and so it begins - 2010

  • Should I do a photo a day?  Probably, right?
  • maybe write the occasional essay or something longer and more structured than a blog post with bullet points
  • I'm definitely paying no more attention to celebrity news.  That one's for sure.
  • I'd like to eat better and work out more - cheesy, but always-legit resolutions.
  • shoot more.  If I had one resolution to keep in mind, it'd be this one.  So easy to let the little parts of life interfere with this goal
  • get back involved with the movie community
  • keep in touch better, both with new people and old people - facebook, texts, calls, notes
  • read more
  • sleep less
  • cook more
  • waste less time dicking around on the internet

That's sort of a resolution list and sort of a musing list on things to keep in mind as the new year starts.  If I could put "be smarter" on there, i would, but I'm trying for concrete things.  The many "mores" on that list have to be offset with some of the "less" bullets, and even though there are fewer of them, I think that with even an hour less dicking around online a day, for example, I could accomplish things.  Things like going to the gym can force the "no dicking around" rule, too, and once the spell is broken, it's easy to not get back online - witness the last few weeks and my total absense from the online world.  Today, for example, I try to see off friends and family as they head out of town, and in between, I do a big old backup and update of everything that I can backup and update - webservers, phone, PCs, laptops... you name it.

Anyway, some foods for thought, anyway.  Happy 2010.
