I like WinDirStat

WinDirStat WinDirStat.  It's an old program, but it works fine on Win7, and it gives a simple, boxy view of your HDD usage.  I've been turning to it for a long time to help me understand my biggest offenders in the HDD-size wars.  I've never really been a guy who just adds more storage as I fill mine up, probably because by the time I fill my workstation HDD with stuff, it's time to get a new computer.  It definitely helps that I have like 2ish TB in my WHS in the closet, although that's really only doing a few hundred GB of music and movies at the moment, but that's okay.

If I start doing more video editing eventually, that'll take up some space (as the new HDD rips for Choice Investigations take up like 21GB), but even that will likely be just SD video most of the time.  I do want to shoot a Sizzle Reel for a reality project, but I'll need a camera for a week and quite a few interviews to make that happen. And I know me....
Moral of the story: I'll probably be a long time filling up the 600GB I have available to me at the moment.  The computer will likely be irrelevant before it's time to add more storage.

Anyway, happy Tuesday.

It's been a long time

Turns out that a new site doesn't mean I update more.

Mom came last Thursday and she gets up early, so my normal morning writing time was interrupted by social time, which is infinitely better for me.  Friday, we went up to Santa Barbara and had a little wine, which was fun, then ate a late lunch at the Mustard Seed, a restaurant that I'd believed closed just a couple of weeks before.

This weekend was Emily's Birthday and BootieLA and yesterday was meetings on Il Punali and then helping Rachel and Rachelle move.  Today is getting back to the grindstone and doing some errands, so I'll do that now.  Not fun, I know, but if I'm going to be having any fun in the upcoming weeks, it's going to be due to the work I'm doing now.

I am an insomniac

Good morning!  It's 4:44am and I'm here at my computer, having read the news, worked on some video and written a little bit of an outline for a story I've been postponing.  Next I'll probably play some video games, then I'll come back and clean off the ol' Desktops (physical and digital) before going to my 7:30am breakfast meeting.

What. The. Fuck.

Ah well.  Just found out that mom's coming by for a day or so tomorrow, which is nice, if a little unexpected.  Dunno what we'll do.  It'll have to be cheap because I'm broke, per usual.  Tomorrow, I have to pay a ticket online, which will no doubt cost a fortune.  Effin' lame.  Also, what did I spend $400 on?  There's a charge on my account saying that I wrote a check for $400, but I have no idea why.  Not good.

What else?  Went to the afterparty for the Roast, so here's a picture from that.  Well, after the jump.

Welcome to the new site!

baby siteHey!  You're here!

If you had a login, you should still be able to use it.  Everything went smoothly on the changeover, and I'm happy with my current look, but I'm not absolutely 100% sure that there aren't going to be bugs.  Check everything out - give the site a once-over.  Tell me what you like and don't like about what you see, and by all means please IM me or call me or email me if you run across something that doesn't work.

Comments from stories didn't translate, but everything else is here, I think.  I actually have added more content to the site that I'll be featuring starting this week.  Be ready.

Tip: Browse Logged In.
Everything is available to you if you do.  I'm happy as someone that's very happy about something to serve stuff to total strangers, but I'm restricting photos and other stuff to people who care enough to register and log in.  It's the most base form of security and it's a holdover from the last version of the site.

RIP Jim Johnson

EaglesThis ain't news, but man, Jim Johnson will be hard to replace.  Looking back on it, his influence on my enjoyment of aggressive defense, constant rushing and QB sacks can't really be underestimated.  He's probably the reason that I suck so much at XBOX fotball, actually.

Anyway, training camp is underway, and it's not an easy place to be for the guys that knew him, I'm sure.  Then again, hopefully, they're working so hard to get into shape that they don't even notice.  Fly, Eagles, Fly.

Carpe Noctem

Carpe NoctemMan, this brings back memories.

Sadly, just about everything is wrong with this copy of the movie, some things that weren't even there in the only screening it ever got.  Example:  the lip synch was perfect (it drives me nuts when lip synch is off) during the screening, but I guess this transfer has seen better days.  The VHS is a disaster, and yet it's the only way I've ever seen this movie outside of the transfer room and the screening room. There are still scenes in here that don't even show up my one-light video test transfer (this was only supposed to be a test afterall).  I hate that we're all black for those scenes, but not as much as I hate the fact that the film jumped the track at the end and is all jacked.  Eh, I could gripe forever.

Anyway, this is up there with one of my favorite projects ever, what with our 6-day shooting schedule (second longest next to Resolution of Sin), driving halfway (and once all the way) to NYC to get Mike or drop him off after he skipped some classes, editing in my monk robe, holding a half-decent casting session by taking the show to the dorms, and shooting in Ruby Tuesday's all night long.

Carpe NoctemThe premise is admittedly absurd (which of my movies aren't absurd-in-premise?) and the directing is really sub-par, but some of the kids give surprisingly good performances.  It's not going to go on record as a great student film or anything, but given that I never did get any college classes in making narrative film.  The kids from NYU really had a head start. Fortunately, being a PA is monkey work that even I could do.

Fun stuff to watch again, even if it does hurt my eyes somewhat.
